We can only renounce or desire what we are attached to. But the pure Self is unattached. Through ignorance, we identify the Self with the BMS complex which prevents us from realizing the Self.
The moment this identification is destroyed, we merge into the Absolute (Brahman).
The universe rises from YOU (Self) like bubbles rising from the sea. Thus know the Self to be One and in this way enter into the state of dissolution.
Water is the only substance of the sea, as well as bubbles, the Name and Form of the bubbles being only Apparent. Similarly, the Self is the only substance behind the universe, the Name and Form of the universe being mere Superimpositions.
So, nothing in the world should cause mental preoccupation (disturbance). It only means that you have given it more reality than it deserves.
In your silent moment, reflect on atma/anatma and reinforce it, that is Nididhyasanam.
The universe, because it is unreal, being manifested like the snake in the rope, does not exist in you who are pure, even though it is present to the senses. therefore, in this way enter into the state of dissolution.
Normally, Vedanta meditation is on Sat-chit-ananda Atma. However it is equally necessary to spend time on Anatma meditation, and know what is not atma (anatma), not real like a dream.
Dream may be “real” for the dreamer, but not for the waker. Also, the dream is dependent on the mind for its existence and dissolution.
Ashtavakra says, spend more time meditating on Jagat Mithyatvam (because it disturbs the mind). Small segment of the world gives strong raga/dwesha that disturbs the mind. Discovers with viveka, what are these ‘buttons” that disturb you, even though they are experienced by the senses, they are not real! (like the dream).
Amalaya the “Pure one”, turiyam, advaitam, prapanchopashamam.
See that anatma has no truth.
For proof of progress, see that distubing mental preoccupations should come down (FIR reductions). Otherwise Vedanta is just “learnt” and “not assimilated”.
The Acid test to see if Vedanta is working for me or not.
Sama, Dukkha, Sukhaha. Sameness (equanimity ) and peace in sukkha/dukkha.
Ahankara (and the body) has to go through Prarabdha, with its ups/downs, but the mind is not overwhelmed, not overly disturbed, not overly preoccupied.
All “events” pass-by as an anatma show, as leela of Ishwara.
I see myself as mukta purushaha, purna swarupaha. I am equanimous in life or death.
Eva meva layam raja. With this equanimous mind, may you merge in Brahman. May you claim your oneness with the birthless, deathless Brahman.
